Prince Julian's desperate maritime flight from an arranged marriage ends in a catastrophic shipwreck, leaving him stranded in a tidal cave with the sharp-tongued merman who dragged him from the surf. When Julian accidentally pockets the merman's enchanted anchor-pearl to stop him from swimming off, neither can leave the grotto before the morning tide.
